Usually distinct geometric patterns in red, gold, cream and blues, the designs often include medallions, animals and flowers. These luxurious rugs, once considered a symbol of status, were placed in churches, and palaces of the elite class. These highly aesthetic, durable rugs have been prized for their rugged authenticity and highly saturated color tones. A word derived from Turkey, this pileless textile is one of several flat weaving techniques related to Turkey, North Africa, the Balkans, the Caucasus, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Central Asia and China. Kilim flatweave designs are made by interweaving the variously colored wefts and warps. Used as floor coverings, hangings, bench coverings, bags, or mule saddles, they are highly diverse. These highly collectable rugs are very popular and less expensive then their pile rug counterparts. 100% wool flatweave.
Originally woven in Afghanistan by nomadic tribes, the main characteristics of the Hamn collection is that they are predominantly geometric. Similar to the Turkmen rug, it is distinctive, featuring specific characteristics such as the striking red to reddish-brown background and the octagonal sun motif in different variations. Constructed with 100% wool on a wool foundation.
Named after the man Khal Mohammadi from Afghanistan, these rugs are characterized by dark, deep reds, blues and blacks. They have a Turkmen character, but with coppery-colored fields and a highly lustrous finish due to fine quality wool. With short piles and beautiful color, these rugs tend to be very warm and homey, with dark red backgrounds, tribal & floral patterns in dark blue, ochre and beige.
