Named after a village, located just 60 miles west of Tabriz, the Heriz rug is distinguished by their rectilinear designs, often with large central stepped medallion or an all over design of highly stylized floral motifs. Their distinctive geometric designs and expressive power make the Heriz rugs among the most recognizable of tribal Persian rugs. Known to be highly durable, the Heriz is more coarsely knotted from 30 to 110 knots per square inch. Constructed with 100% wool on a cotton foundation.

Originally designed for the Persian aristocracy, the finely woven antique Farahan carpets of the 19th century were valued for their exceptional craftsmanship, elegance, and spirited artistry. There are distinctive antique carpet design features which set the fine antique Farahan antique Oriental carpets apart from the styles of other regions. The Farahan rugs, utilize the art of streaking color, a technique known as abrash, which was used profusely in 19th century-examples. You will see it throughout this rare and highly collectible rug. The antique Farahan Sarouk rugs in good condition are now very difficult to find and regarded highly.
Going back to the Safavid times in the seventeenth century, Isfahan rugs are said to be the some of the best rugs ever made in Persia. In a city of master weavers, inspiration came from Persia’s best achievements including dramatic vine scrolls and design elements from the city’s famous buildings. The Silk Isfahan is comprised of 100% natural silk on a silk foundation and very tight pile.
